Roatan-Utila-RE/MAX-Real-Estate-Newsletter–August-2017  -Last Month’s Survey
Thank you to everyone who participated in last month’s survey! The purpose of the survey was to help me better tailor these monthly newsletters to fit your needs. If you missed the survey, it’s not too late to participate. The survey is short, (a couple of minutes/9 questions), anonymous, and I am already making changes based on information I received from readers.
Link to Survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/YK6QYYG

Based on input from the survey, a new website in regard to the providing of information is in the works. The theme of the new site is The Total Information Location. The website will contain emergency phone numbers, medical information, legal contacts, hotel information, attractions, and much more. I will provide specific information relevant to island living, and I also hope to launch the site in less than 90 days. Also, based on survey responses, I will feature various businesses on the island in future Newsletters in order to provide a better feel for life in the Bay Islands.

One of the survey questions asked I will share the results to date that surprised me.

Q-As a Shopper or Serious Purchaser your goal would be?

Full-time Residence

36%

Seasonal Residency

36%

Vacation w/ Rental Ability

-Residency Laws Change Upcoming
Keep your eyes open for some upcoming changes in residency law.
Although the final version of the proposed legal changes have not been published, bits and pieces are being leaked it seems. From what I am hearing there will be some eased regulations for investors and a possible change that caught my attention is that VISA waivers may be issued at the airports if travelers are from particular countries. (no attorney needed). Both of these changes would be a plus for all. As soon as it is public I will send it along. If you ae thinking of residency you may wish to exchange a few emails with Lissa Asfura lissasfura@yahoo.com She is the top residency attorney on the island. She is honest and efficient. She will answer your questions and address your concerns.

-Canadian Air Travel
This winter Sunwing will launch new flight service from Saguenay, Quebec to Roatan, Honduras, becoming the first carrier to offer service to Roatan from Saguenay-Bagotville Airport. Beginning Dec. 18, Monday direct flights will run weekly until April 16, 2018.

-Accolades – Top Island
Did you read the recent CNN article, which featured seventeen of the world’s most overlooked islands? Here’s an excerpt:

“Countering the flashier island destinations, Roatan feels no need to boast its beauty — those who should know will find it and those who find it will return. The biggest of Honduras’ Caribbean Bay Islands has been calling divers for decades because of its position at the foot of the 700-mile-long Mesoamerican Reef, the largest barrier reef in the Caribbean Sea and second biggest in the world after Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.

Life is laid back on Roatan. Its seaside shacks serve up simple “baleadas,” a Honduran take on a taco. Made with a flour tortilla and filled with refried beans, cheese and cream, then topped with meat and avocado, they’re well-suited to be washed down with a Salva Vida, meaning “lifesaver,” a local and loved cerveza. (beer).”

Islands are great. Roatan is close enough to make an easy day of non-time -wasting travel and far enough to get away from it all and

RELAX/RENEW/REFRESH/REVITALIZE.

-Pet Travel
I am often asked about traveling with pets. We travel frequently with my wife’s Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Traveling with animals does take planning and preparation, but it is always nice to have your furry friend with you, especially if you are going to try island living seasonally or permanently. Speaking of residency, seventy-three percent of people who responded to last month’s survey are hoping to find a full-time or seasonal residence here. Wow, that really surprised me!

For more on pet travel, here is a great site that Utila Agent, Mark Smith suggested. http://www.pettravel.com/immigration/honduras.cfm

Cruise Ship “Property Shoppers”
Many people have either already decided to make the move in regard to living abroad, or they are considering moving, but they aren’t sure where.

Many favorites destinations are on this end of the world, and there are people who use the cruise ship industry to scout possible destinations. If done correctly, this is a great way to sort things out. That said, you still need to do your homework. Contacting a real estate company a week before you arrive won’t do the trick. We advise you to contact us so we can get to know you and your needs before you arrive. Coming here to “see a few properties” will not give you a true picture of what’s available.

There are many things to consider while property shopping: Are you looking at part-time, full-time or vacation time purchase? Do you want to be in an area heavy with tourism? Residential? Remote? What do you want to do in your spare time? Dive, fish, golf, beachcomb? What product are you looking for (home site, home, condo, a commercial venture, or to start a new life with a new business).

Our “All You Need to Know” video series is a good starting point for most people as are the geography webinars on both Roatan and Utila. If combining a cruise vacation and scouting for property sounds like something you are interested in, here is the cruise ship schedule for the rest of the year. Enjoy the cruise, gather information, find your destination.

Roatan-Utila-RE/MAX-Real-Estate-Newsletter–August-2017

-Why RE/MAX Bay Islands- RE/MAX Western Sunsets is the right choice
Everyone who has ever had a small business, works hard, often for many years, building, improving, and trying to be the best they can be. For me, being RE/MAX has meant just that. Taking the RE/MAX slogan of “Above the Crowd” (you will have to picture the red, white and blue balloon here in your mind! 🙂 .

“Here is not there” is one of my favorite sayings and that idea holds true in the real estate industry here in the Bay Islands. Where you come from, real estate Agents are probably required to go to school, get training, take a state licensing test, then find a Broker to hang their license. That is not the case here. In the Bay Islands, you can find any real estate company that will have you, buy a Municipal Operating Permit, and you are a real estate Agent.

That is absolutely not the case with RE/MAX Bay Islands or RE/MAX Western Sunsets. Not only do people who want to be Agents have to obtain that permit, they MUST study, become familiar with real estate laws, procedures and protocols, but also abide by the Codes of Ethics and Standards of Practice. They are tested, and then regularly encouraged to take advanced studies to specialize and educate themselves beyond the basics. We are the ONLY Real Estate company in the country that operates in this manner. The ONLY REAL Estate company that has formal training and testing standards.

Within our company we have REALTOR designees educated in International Real Estate, Resort and Second Home specializations, Investing with IRA’s, Accredited Buyer’s Representation, Investor Designation and one ton of experience. We have one Agent that has been here, on the island, and who has been doing this for over 23 years. Two people have 18 years of experience and many with several years, including both of our Agents on Utila who have lived there for over 14 years now.

Our Office Staff has three out of four people that have advanced University Degrees. We do not take this lightly. Buying a property whether it be here or anywhere IS a big deal. We get that. “Relax, It’s RE/MAX”.
