Over the last 15 years, the population has grown exponentially. Like anywhere else, with growth come new challenges. Fortunately, our changing times have brought together local and foreign individuals as well as nonprofit organizations and the private sector to serve our communities. A fundraising event called Run for Fun, a 5K event for a large cruise ship group who generously brought us numerous requested backpacks and school supplies for students in need. The Run for Fun partnered with Sun Foundation, a nonprofit focused on improving public bi-lingual education on Roatan founded and funded by Sun Corporation. I was thrilled to have been a part of distributing donations to kids who greet me with unrestrained excitement and anticipation and the teachers with humility and gratitude. I am very grateful to be part of the RE/MAX team, as it allows me the flexibility to partner with people, and events like Extreme Roatan, organizations such as, Medicines for Roatan, and now Sun Foundation. With all of us working together to ensure Roatan remains a place of beauty, while creating new opportunities for its growing population. Although the rumors get stronger each day about Southwest Air servicing Roatan in 2018, there is a new provider for those of you who are living on the east side of N.America this new airlines may be an option for you. There is a lot of land on the market right now, and it is available at very good prices. When I say very good prices, I mean prices are often up to half of what people were paying in 2006-07. In other words, planning ahead for the next 5-10 years can really pay off. Land is far less of an investment than a home or condo, has no maintenance, no property management, and most land has very little expense. You have the option of buying land with an IRA and when you retire, cash it in and build your dream home, no matter what that is.
