Panama Air The Bay Islands are destination in which people often look to buy, invest, or retire. Another location many consider is Panama. Being in real estate, I know many people who have bought in Panama and are now shopping for additional real estate in the Bay Islands. Recently, Panama Air announced service to Roatan, and I thought that readers who are considering both places, might be interested in knowing about travel options. CEMESA: Hospital CEMESA Roatan (HRC) HRC has asked me to help spread the word that they now accept most health insurance from the United States. HRC suggests that if you are moving to the island, frequently visit the island, or currently live on the island, that you pre-register at the hospital. That way if you are ever in need of care, you are already in the system. I suggested pre-registering at the hospital in last month’s newsletter, and I had a long-term client, who is also a friend, take my advice. Then, last week, my friend was rushed to the hospital in an emergency situation. He was stabilized and air evacuated a couple of days later to the CEMESA Facility in San Pedro. I am happy to report that my friend is now out of a coma and recovering. Pre-registering at the hospital saved him valuable time. SANTA Visits Roatan Over the past 18 years that I have lived on Roatan, each Christmas Santa has come to the island for a visit. Here, many children live in great need. This year, Cindy and Bob Thomas, with Christine and Gary Storrs, are on their third trip to Roatan and are looking forward to watching the joy on children’s faces when they see Santa walking down the beach. Loren’s Art for a Great cause Loren Romeo Silvestri is a 34-year-old artist and adult with special needs. He lives on Roatan. Five years ago, Loren’s parents, along with other parents of children with disabilities, put together a leaning center for people with disabilities on the island. As a way to raise money, Loren has put some of his art on a 2017 calendar, and the calendar is now being sold at Gilei’s Restaurant (above ACE Hardware). Gilei’s is a great option for a Breakfast or lunch. The calendars are also available at Loren’s parents’ restaurant, Romeo’s, in French Harbor. Watch for MLS Magazine The Brokers and Agents in the Bay Islands are in the last week of putting out a new MLS Magazine. The magazine is scheduled for publication at the beginning of the year, but I should have a PDF of the RE/MAX Bay Islands & RE/MAX Western Sunsets pages early next week. Discovery & Investment Tour: Crunch Time As many newsletter subscribers know, the next Discovery and Investment Tour is scheduled for March 13, 2017. This tour is a logistical feat (at least for me!). I am a real estate guy, not a tour operator. However, I am evaluating hotel locations that have conference room facilities, arranging air conditioned busses, scheduling a sailboat, and spending a great deal of time communicating via email. We have guest speakers coming from Honduras and other countries, and I am negotiating hotel rates (during their high season). In order to obtain the most optimal rate, I need to provide a headcount.

You may have noticed that this Newsletter was titled “October/November”. The reason for this is pretty simple. Basically I have really, really been busy the past couple of weeks and could not get it out the October only version. I am visiting family in the U.S. (One of my daughters also had a baby). Once again we are grandparents and Lydia Helen some day will be a reader I am sure!
