U.S. Medicare “Passport” Program-
In my last Newsletter I mentioned Medicare “Passport” service and I am afraid I was not clear enough regarding this benefit. “Passport” service from Medicare is a Medicare program for when you are traveling (limit 3 months I believe it is). This Medicare program has nothing to do with the Passport you have from your country in regard to traveling. The Medicare program called “Passport” for which you call Medicare and tell them you will be out of the country their “Passport” service kicks in. If you have a medical situation you pay for it while abroad yourself then apply for reimbursement when you get back to the states. Sorry for the confusion.

Caribbean Free Dive Competition
This past week on Roatan was the “International Caribbean Free Diving Championship”. What has been an annual event on Roatan has turned into quite the event. The Bay Islands for many years has been considered one of the top places in the world for diving and it would only be logical to have this event hosted on our island. Ranked as the number four for places to dive. “Located in the Caribbean Sea, Roatan is surrounded by crystal clear waters that are calm and warm making this island one of the best venues for free-diving in the world.” Competitive results http://www.sportalsub.net/en/caribbean-cup-2018/

Things to Do on Roatan- ?
Yep, It is an Island. In communications with people looking at moving here or investing here I am asked what there is to do on the island. One customer mentioned they can only spend so much time at the beach. Honestly whether you are at home or here everyone can be as busy and active as they wish to be. One thing for sure is there are many things to keep you busy. Besides many charitable option to help with mentoring, teaching, or maybe animals and humane efforts here is a pretty good list of fun things to do.

Real Estate Overview
YTD Sales in the Bay islands real estate sales are strong with volume as an industry up 9.1%. This increase YTD follows an over 12% increase 2016 vs. 2017. There is no doubt that in some price ranges there is a lack or residential inventory for sale putting pressure on some sub categories when shopping for homes and condos. The lack of choices at some price points has helped boost the building trades whereas vacant land in many instances is still very much a bargain. Quality construction and maintenance is available and U.S. standards and quality can be obtained often at very bargain prices as compared to stateside. People land banking for future buildout fills a lot of ‘checks’ on a list for potential purchaser. Being a mostly cash market price points of spending are less, land holding costs can be very low, depending on the property. With the volatility of the stock market some consider land a real plus as an option. Vacant land often can offer Self Directed IRA’s a long term, safe return. Options at virtually all price points.
