White Pickett Fences –
I was at lunch with a friend here a couple of weeks ago at “Victoria’s’, (which is located at Lawson Rock, good food by the way), chatting about various things but the conversation went to the long, long winter that was experienced in North America this past year, with many locations still being snowed on in still in April.
I posed the hypothetical question to him wondering why people actually lived in those areas, if they had a choice? He made the comment that “most people cannot see beyond their ‘white picket fences’. “ Those three words sort of stuck with me in that I lived north of the ‘Mason Dixon line’ most of my life, mainly in the Chicago-land area.
I guess we are unusual in regard to the ‘norm’ of many people, even many people I known personally, that more often than not, people do not think past their ‘white picket fences’ and often do not make it out of their own cities, let alone their state or country.
For me there are too many reasons not to ‘expand’ past those fences. For me wanting to experience life, while I still have it, live better , for less, without cold weather, without heating bills, heavy jackets, boots and gloves, is a good thing. Experiencing fresh, really fresh, seafood, veggies and fruits all year, every year are just some of the ‘perks’. A two hour flight back to the states makes it easy to see kids and grand kids. Here we have access to quality medical care, while we run diesel in our vehicles at about $1.00 a gallon less than gasoline.
Add the ability to start your own business here and get a + $97,000.00 U.S. tax deduction with the IRS, all adds up to a better life, or it does in our book anyway.
Let’s see…. Great weather, great food, better cost of living, little for taxes,………no wonder I have thousands of readers and millions of people that invest and live overseas seem to agree. Add the above to a real estate market that offers great prices on beautiful properties and it everything falls into place,…. the stars align.
